Priligy
"An effective premature ejaculation (PE) treatment that delays your impulse to climax. Take one tablet 1-3 hours before having sex."
What is Priligy?
Priligy is an effective premature ejaculation (PE) treatment that delays the impulse to climax. One tablet before sex can help make it last three times longer before ejaculation.
How does it work?
Priligy contains the active ingredient dapoxetine, which boosts the levels of serotonin in the body. This causes a delayed reaction in the parts of your brain that trigger ejaculation. So, you can last longer before orgasm.
How to use Priligy
Take one Priligy tablet 1-3 hours before having sex to help make it last 3 times longer before ejaculation. Priligy can be taken with or without food.
Never drink alcohol with Priligy pills or take more than one tablet within a 24 hour period.
And don’t drink grapefruit juice in the 24 hours before taking dapoxetine tablets like Priligy, as this can increase their potency in your body.
Treatment results
Priligy works for around 8 out of 10 men. If it’s effective, you should notice a doubling or tripling of the time your erection lasts before ejaculation. Bear in mind that Priligy isn’t a cure for PE, and needs to be taken each time before sex. There’s no ongoing effect.
Side effects of Priligy
As with all medications, some men may experience side effects when taking Priligy. The most common are nausea, dizziness, headache, fainting, and diarrhoea.
If you feel dizzy or faint after taking Priligy, you shouldn’t drive, operate heavy machinery or do anything that could be dangerous.
For full details of side effects and correct use, please see the Priligy patient information leaflet. And if you’re worried about side effects, you can contact us in your Patient Record.

Priligy warnings
Priligy is only licensed to be prescribed to men aged 18-64 who’ve had premature ejaculation for at least six months. This means ejaculation happens less than 60 seconds after penetration.
You shouldn’t take Priligy if you have heart disease, issues with blood clotting, or a tendency to faint. Before Priligy can be prescribed, you’ll also need to tell the doctor about any other medicines you’re taking, in case it could interact dangerously with them.
Don’t drink alcohol with Priligy, as this can make it less effective and worsen some potential side effects. The medication can also intensify the negative effects of alcohol, such as feeling dizzy or sleepy, and having slow reactions.
Remember that Priligy and dapoxetine tablets are a temporary solution to the complex issue of premature ejaculation, not a cure. It’ll work best if you combine it with behavioural techniques and, in some cases, counselling or psychotherapy.
-
Priligy drug interactions
As with all medications, Priligy can interact with other medicines. It’s best not to mix Priligy with antidepressants, blood thinners, or medicine used to treat kidney problems, liver conditions, or being prone to excessive dehydration.
There are other medicines that interact with Priligy too. So, if we’re to prescribe it safely, you’ll need to let us know which prescription and over-the-counter medicines or recreational drugs you’re taking regularly.

How to store Priligy
Priligy doesn’t need any special storage conditions, but you should keep it out of sight and reach of children.

Alternative Priligy treatments
As the causes of premature ejaculation are often psychological, some men find counselling or hypnotherapy most effective.
There are exercises you and your partner can practise helping you last longer, or to be more satisfied with your performance.
Remember that simply talking as a couple about sexual issues like PE can help. You might find it makes you feel more relaxed about expectations and your performance.
Some men find counselling or hypnotherapy helpful as a means of exploring and treating psychological causes for PE. Others use behavioural techniques to manage their PE with success.
We can also prescribe EMLA, an anaesthetic cream you apply directly to your penis. It has a numbing effect, reducing sensitivity at the head of the penis to help delay ejaculation.
