Hair loss treatments
What is hair loss?
The type of hair loss we call male pattern baldness is a genetic condition and by the age of 50, around half of all men will be affected by it. Some men even start to see male pattern baldness as early as their 20s.
What causes hair loss?
Male pattern baldness is where the male hormone testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, get weaker then eventually die. So, you start to grow fewer hairs and, eventually, none at all.
Hair loss can also be caused by illness, stress or chemotherapy. Unfortunately, you can’t use our treatments to reverse this kind of hair loss (but in some cases this will only be temporary). Please speak to your GP about any sudden loss of hair.
What are the symptoms?
When male pattern baldness occurs, the main symptom is thinning hair at the sides and top of your head.
If this hair loss isn’t bothering you, there’s no problem and you don’t need to get medical help. However, if you’re not happy with your hair loss, there are some highly effective treatments. In some cases, you can even stimulate hair regrowth.
How is it diagnosed?
If you’re experiencing hair loss you can speak to your GP or start a consultation and one of our clinicians will make sure the treatment is right for you.
We'll ask you a series of questions which are completely confidential. Once we’re sure they’re right for you, we can prescribe tablets or medicated foam that help slow hair loss and can encourage regrowth.
